Street Tabernacles of Florence
The exhibition "Street Tabernacles of Florence" is in the collection
of the Museum of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of the Mother of God
in Moscow
After visiting the exhibition the Apostolic Nuncio to the Russian
Federation His Excellency Giovanni D'Aniello said that in his homeland
in Naples there are no less tabernacles than in Florence, which are a
peculiar way of addressing the Virgin: “Walking through the streets
of Naples, I often asked the question: “Why are these tabernacles
taller than human height?” I assumed that this was done to prevent
people from touching or destroying them. But the real meaning was much
deeper - we always have to raise our eyes to see them, to look at our
life and the situations that arise in it. And our look up helps us
find the right solution. Therefore, I thank all those who organized
this exhibition, because in this way you make us look up.
